Quiz ... the ITV version of coughing & Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
Watched this on the ITV catch up ....
Very well made with a great cast but wasn’t aware of the whole story incl the Major’s wife and brother in law having previously been on the show and the whole bonkers ‘quiz community’ and their strategies to get on tv.
And the Major was the least convincing quiz winner in history .... Craig David? Never heard of him but will risk thousands and pick him as my answer.
Obviously guilty as hell. Wasn’t he?

Connection with West Ham?
Question he answered for £125,000 was ...
What does the F in Carlton F Cole stand for?

But still doesn't prove it could be heard in the middle

Didn’t the guy on the fastest finger bench give evidence that Wittock was coughing in suspicious places?
Though as the defence says he COULD be regarded as a hostile witness with an ulterior motive

Re: Quiz ... the ITV version of coughing & Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
So no witnesses at all to confirm it was audible.

How is that beyond reasonable doubt?

Re: Quiz ... the ITV version of coughing & Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
Wittock was a few feet behind Ingram and Tarrant further away.
Tarrant may have been focusing entirely on Ingram and blocking out audience noise.
And of course if he said he DID hear suspicious coughing the next question would be ... why didn’t you stop the show and point it out?

Re: Quiz ... the ITV version of coughing & Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
I understand that.. But Tarrant didn't hear it..

Did the camera pan to every other person that coughed in the audience?

Only two people were in a position to know if the coughs were audible in the midfle one was on the side of the prosecution and didn't hear it.

He was the key witness.

Re: Quiz ... the ITV version of coughing & Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
Are you saying Quiz was a ‘cheap budget’?
With a cast of Michael Sheen, Helen McCrory, Matthew McFadyan etc etc
It was an adaptation of a play by James Graham.
I suspect he was more sympathetic to the Ingrams for dramatic effect and as said in the theatre the audiences were given buzzers to vote at the interval & at the end ... creating doubt was partly to create a contrast there.

So no money was stolen so there is no crime?
So if a bank robber is collared by the police with the cash as he comes out then no money is stolen , eh?

Re: Quiz ... the ITV version of coughing & Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
It isnt edited falsely. It is the recording that has all mics turned up. When recording a show you isolate the different mics like a music recording studio but all the time in background you have a recording of all sounds. What we hear on the tv is tarrants mic and Ingrams mike turned up and all other mics turned down or isolated. U dont want to hear someone rustling for crisps but u WOULD hear that if in the audience that day live. Tape g is a recording with all mics playing switched up. That's it explained in layman's terms anyhow.
Tarrant was under oath In court so cannot lie or say opinion when giving evidence. He was asked if he heard the coughs or noticed the coughs. Neither would be true so he answered no. He has to. He would be too focused on his job of asking questions. It was recorded live and so people coughing would not be in his brain nor would he let it distract him from.the job he has in hand which is to ask questions that may allow someone to win 1million.
If u ask him.away from court what he thinks he says 1 billion per per cent the guy was cheating.
Most of the fastest fingers first people all said they knew what was happening as it was happening.
It is fact that he cheated..the programme was NOT well made, it was a cheap budget and was heavily weighted in the ingrams favour for some fucking weird reason but if anyone asks why ITV put it on, it is purely to raise ratings, they dont care of the content where as celador would never make a show like this now.
To the person below who says maybe the judge sensed they were not guilty and gave a lenient sentence?! Oh fuck me. What world do u live in? No money was stolen, intent was shown and the right punishment was dished out.
2 years later or thereabouts they were done for insurance fraud
Wasnt a theft or anything that serious but still, let's not allow ourselves to think that a seving major that has seen action in Bosnia and was a member of mensa was not clued up.

Did he cheat? Yes

Can they prove it beyond all reasonable doubt?

No

He has to be found not guilty

Although I said the same about Iain Huntley

Re: Quiz ... the ITV version of coughing & Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
What many on here are forgetting is that Celador increased the volume of the coughs that they wanted the jury to hear. The original tape, where volume was normal, was then deleted and no longer exists.

So, in essence, the main piece of evidence to convict them (the VCR) was edited and produced by the accusers. I'm surprised that his brief didn't argue that it should be inadmissible.

Even after watching the tape, not beyond reasonable doubt for me.

If you come away from watching that thinking they’re innocent then watch the actual real show. If you still think they’re innocent, I have some beans you might want to buy

Re: Quiz ... the ITV version of coughing & Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
The TV programme was definitely sympathetic to the Ingrams. I thought it was a very well made programme.

Whilst it shows a 'version' of what happened it doesn't show the actual footage at the decibel that happened at the time.

Tarrant himself said in court he didn't hear any coughing or other audible assistance.

The fact that the judge was incredibly lenient suggests they were not convinced with the jury's verdict based on the evidence before them.

Do I think they cheated in someway - almost certainly.

Do i think that (based on the TV version) the evidence provided by the prosecution merited a guilty verdict 'beyond reasonable doubt'. - No

To those who think he’s innocent i suggest u watch this (45 minutes worth of his whole show) or just skip to the last 20 minutes where it becomes so obvious they’re cheating.

100% guilty.

Re: Quiz ... the ITV version of coughing & Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
Lots of coughs when you have dozens of people sitting together closely in a studio
How many when he is pondering the answers by reading them out?
Hard to watch the Craig David or Haussmann questions particularly without suspicion.
And most big quiz winners generally have a logical mind and breeze through a certain number of obvious (to them) questions.
His bumbling car crash style would have been unique

Guilty or Not Guilty?
Hmmm
I said Guilty or Not Guilty?
Guilty (* cough*) or ...

I AM GOING TO SAY GUILTY

Was a member of mensa so was more than likely far more clever than the majority of people that accuse him of being a cheat...

How many coughs in that episode?? 200 odd??

I played football against Charles Ingram in a charity game, he was a nice fella but a shocking footballer.

If he’d quit at £500k none of this business would ever have happened - the greedy fucker.

You don't need the permission of the characters that you've written about though you must point out that it is 'Based on true events'.

Of course, the person/people you have written about can sue if you defame them in any way.

Re: Quiz ... the ITV version of coughing & Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
It is legal for people to write unauthorized biographies, make documentaries or dramas about someone without needing their permission. You do not need permission to portray a real person in a work of art such as a book or movie - this happens all the time.

Though as Sven says, legal ramifications, if a person feels defamed.
